Southland Trailers

Southland Trailer Corp. needed a faster, more efficient curing process to keep pace with increasing production demands. Their existing paint booths were being used for both painting and curing, creating bottlenecks that required additional labor, extra shifts, coating accelerators, and air drying to maintain output. RTT Finishing Solutions designed and manufactured two custom batch cure ovens, complete with AutoSeal Roll-Up Fabric Doors and SmartTouch Controls, giving Southland Trailer a streamlined curing process with faster cycle times, increased throughput, and improved production efficiency.

About Southland Trailer Corp.: Southland Trailer Corp. is Canada’s largest manufacturer of light- and medium-duty industrial trailers. Based in Alberta, the company designs and manufactures high-quality trailers for a wide range of commercial and industrial applications. With a strong reputation for innovation, durability, and manufacturing excellence, Southland Trailer continually invests in advanced production technologies to improve efficiency, increase capacity, and deliver reliable products to customers across Canada and beyond.

Problem

As production demands increased, Southland Trailer’s existing curing process became a major bottleneck. Painted trailers were cured inside the paint booths, tying up valuable booth time and limiting production capacity. To keep up with demand, the company was forced to add extra shifts, increase manpower, use coating accelerators, and even air-dry some products.

Despite these measures, the existing process could not deliver the throughput required to support continued growth.

Solution

RTT Finishing Solutions partnered with Southland Trailer to design and install two custom Batch Cure Ovens that fit within the available plant footprint while significantly improving production efficiency. Equipped with AutoSeal® Fabric Roll-Up Doors and SmartTouch® Controls, the ovens were engineered to provide rapid temperature recovery between batches, minimize heat loss, and maximize throughput.

By moving the curing process out of the paint booths and into dedicated batch ovens, Southland Trailer streamlined its finishing operation. The new system enabled consistent 12–15-minute trailer curing cycles, eliminated production bottlenecks, reduced dependence on additional labor and coating accelerators, and increased overall production capacity—allowing trailers to move seamlessly to the next stage of manufacturing.

Customer Feedback

“In my opinion, the most important thing to consider when buying equipment is a partner that can get the job done. Anyone can sell you something, but RTT had the willingness to make sure it all came together and did exactly what we needed it to do.”
